HOTEL REVIEW:

This is our first stay with Hotel Jen.

On our way to Hotel Jen, there were some constructions along the way and on the route to Hotel Jen. No noise disturbance was encountered during our stay so not to worry. Do note and ensure you get the map to the hotel on hand prior to your trip, as there may be chance of making a wrong turn due to the various constructions around. Parking is free.

Arriving at approximately 3:30pm, the lobby was not crowded and check-in was pretty fast. The lobby is well spaced and there is an area specially for children such as computer play, pretend play, football table and TV.

Our assigned room, 2307, is located across a bridge linking to the next block, which is a minute or two walk from the front desk.

Snacks and Drinks vending machines are located at the ground floor when you enter or exit the hotel.

We noted during reservation that we were celebrating Little S’s birthday. The housekeeping team did a simple decoration with balloons, party hats, and a birthday banner. The kids were overjoyed and were happily playing about.

Our room has a king size bed and a sofa bed. The bedding is just right for 2 Asian adults and 2 young children (a toddler and lower primary child). Family with older children will find the bedding too squeezy. An extra rollaway bed can be requested complimentary from the hotel.

Surfing on the free WiFi was smooth.

The bathroom has a bathtub, and a shower area with rainshower that gave a good water pressure.

Beside the amenities listed on Hotel Jen’s website, they provided

  • 2 bottled of water given daily
  • Tea bags, coffee sachets, sugar sachets
  • Dental hygiene consisting of toothbrush
  • Grooming kit
  • Shampoo, Bath foam, and Hair conditioner
  • 2 pairs of adult bedroom slipper

Note: We encountered mosquito twice in the room on Day 1. Once when we off the aircon and another time was in the night when DaddyC was disturbed by a mosquito buzzing, thus it was not a good sleep for him. Do bring along mosquito patches, otherwise the hotel does provide “Tiger Balm” brand mosquito patches.

Breakfast was at Harbour Cafe with wider spread of food versus breakfast at the Club Lounge. For those who did not opt for Hotel Jen’s buffet breakfast given that there are a few eateries right outside the hotel and on the lower ground of the shopping street.

Club Lounge

Untitled6.jpgUntitled6.jpg

Located on the same level as the rooftop garden that offers a good view of the harbour. The lounge tends to get crowded be it in the morning or in the evening cocktail.

Amenities and Services are:

  • A mobile charging booth which has a manually-turn key lock on each door that has a limit of 9 stations available.
  • Filling buffet breakfast and evening spread of Western and Asian finger food, soup and desserts.
  • Local newspapers
  • Unlimited flow of hot and cold beverages, wines and beers.
  • Late check-out request till 12pm, subject to availability.
  • Staff did not restrict or comment when guests take out a few bottle of bottled drinks or can drinks (do exercise consideration such as one bottle each of drinking water and can drink is fine).

Overall: Is it value-for-money to stay in a club room with lounge access, vs if we opted for a deluxe room? For an average of SGD14 per day per guest (an exchange rate of SGD1 = RM3) you get to relax, get free breakfast and evening cocktail, and take out a few bottle of bottled drinks makes it affordable, even more so for drinkers of alcoholic beverages.

Nearby: 10 minutes walk to Legoland. 5 minutes walk to Puteri Harbour and Hello Kitty Town.

Parking: One time parking fee of RM10. The issued parking slip is to be kept for re-use during your entire stay.

Check-in: When we arrived after parking, we were greeted with 2 bear mascots stand upon exiting from the lift. It was a smooth process and there was no crowd when we checked in at 2pm.

Room:

The room was spacious for a family of 2 adult and 2 young children. The area was clean and aircon temperature was cold at 25 degree.

Their website listed free WiFi for 2 users, but was without any limit on the number of devices when we were there.

The bedding was comfy and sleeping was without any issue, including the extra bed we had requested prior to our stay.

Amenities (see photo) in the room were available on the first day of stay and replenishment will be based on the duration of stay. Any subsequent request is chargeable. Amenities are provided similar to a hotel stay, and we did not need to pay or get any additional item.

When it was bathing time, unfortunately, the heater was spoilt and the technician came to fix it taking about 30 minutes. Water was hot while the water pressure was average for both the rain-shower and shower head.

Our room has a safe thus no issue on keeping of valuables and passport securely.

There is a balcony right outside and our room from afar faced Legoland hotel.

There are still ongoing construction around the vicinity, but we were not disturbed by any noise during our stay.

Outdoor swimming pool:

We visited the swimming pool around 6:30pm. The design is similar to an infinity pool overlooking the courtyard. It was crowded during this time.

With daylight swimming was alright, but when dark and although lighting shone, swimming underwater was obstructed as water was cloudy.

Dining:

Food can be easily found within a 5 minutes walk to Medini mall.

We mainly dined at:

  • Old Town white coffee (Asian meals. Closes at 8pm). Go early during dinner time to avoid some food running out by 7pm. Eg. RM11.89 for Nasi Lemak Fried Chicken rice or RM10.85 for Chicken Hor Fun.

Flies while dining here.

Current visit on 10 Mar 2018, the portion of the Nasi Lemak fried chicken is smaller.

  • Sushi King (affordable Japanese dining. 10am-10pm)
  • Caring pharmacy (Drinks, Milk powder, Health supplements, Pharmacy, Beauty products)

Example 6 packets of Dutch Lady milk 200ml cost RM15

  • 7 minutes drive to Legoland.
  • 16 minutes drive to Aeon Mall Bukit Indah

Lunch was at Market Restaurant which was affordable at RM66 (Fish N Chips meal with cream of mushroom soup, Kids chicken nugget meal with free Walls ice cream, Kids Mac & Cheese meal with Walls ice cream and a Heaven & Earth bottled Jasmine tea, 2 bottle of Ribena). Food was quite tasty. 10% off on F&B only for Premium annual pass holder.

Escape from the hot weather at the air-conditioned Lego Academy and book your Lego mindstorm workshops. 2 separate groups for 3-6 years (building simple machines) and minimum 8 years old (robotics). Reserve early in the morning as there are 10 slots for each session.

Untitled3.jpgNext stop is Ninjago World where you get to meet all the characters and the monastery for photo-taking. More awaits at the indoor air-conditioned Ninjago the Ride as you walk through the gallery before you start to “defeat the Great Devourer and earn ninja status.”

Little Ones have fun at the Duplo Playtown and ride on the train at the Duplo Express, or let your child’s creativity soars as they build their own Lego vehicle and race with other children (at least an hour can be spent on this zone). The different thematic zones have a playground, but the really hot weather prevented play from those unsheltered ones.

Being amaze with the 4D movies at the Lego Studios. Suitable for toddlers (3 years) and above. Note: Do expect splashes of water in the studio from the movie effect.

Escape the hot weather to the airconditioned cafe named “The Cafe”, located near to the entry exit. Only 3 groups of diners here and the staff was quick to service our orders. Light meals as per photo (portion was big and can be shared) and other choices, cakes and muffins are available.

The mall is mainly visited when visiting Legoland, otherwise to specifically make a trip down for shopping or dining at the F&B outlets is not worth the time. “TM Free WIFI” is located throughout the Mall when we were there at Level 1.

-> Room

On reaching your room level, the whole floor is carpeted and designed on your chosen theme. Our room is very spacious. 2 TVs for the master room and another room with bunk bed (3 persons can sleep). Solve the quizzes (clues in the room) in the activity sheet and unlock the chest to reveal 3 Lego packs. There is a box of duplo to entertain the kids.

Love the strong water pressure in the shower. There is separately 3 hand-towel hangers and clothes hook in the bathroom. Be careful when closing the shower door as ours does not have the soft close strip.

Complimentary sachets of teabags, coffee, milo, creamer, sugar, and 2 bottles of bottled water, and a pack of cookies.

WiFi was smooth throughout our stay.

We managed to extend our check-out to 12pm (subject to availability)

Kids loved the bunk beds.

-> Swimming pool

Swimming is at Level 5 for in-house guests from 8am to 8pm. Two pools – Children pool has soft Lego blocks and adult pool is separated. The pool gets ‘crowded’ couple of minutes to 6pm when we were there. Pool towels cannot be brought back to the room, thus do come in the bathrobes (Adult and Child) provided in your room.

-> Breakfast

Breakfast is inclusive for all bookings, which is in fact inclusive as part of your room price and to dine at The Bricks Family Restaurant. Both days it was a 5 minutes and less wait before being assigned to a seat.

It was a widespread of Western (salad, breads, hotdogs, etc) and local (Dim sum, Fried rice, etc) food . Types of food were different for both days. Food (steam bun, chef cooked eggs, and soup noodles) is also available outdoor (left side from the direction of the entrance) so do check out. Quality of food varies, for example fresh ingredients for noodle soup like the fresh meatball were stale or the fried chicken for the nasi lemak were overcooked and burnt. Since there were other choice of food breakfast was still filling.

There were also Juices, Black and White Coffee, Black Tea, Milo and Teabags. Teh Tarik is available at selected timing and served by a staff pushing a trolley.

Nearest to Aeon Mall Bukit Indah. 12 minutes drive (depends on traffic conditions) or by bus, SL1. Read review here
