  • SG GST relief limit of S$100 (less than 48 hours away from SG), or $500 for 48 hours and above (Dec 2023).
  • When you enter or depart Malaysia (especially for drivers), check that your passport is stamped before leaving the immigration booth. This ensures you are not breaching Malaysia’s immigration laws.
  • Loss of Passport: 1. If your Singapore passport is lost or stolen when you are in Malaysia, make a police report immediately at the nearest local police station.
    2. Bring the police report and 2 passport-sized photographs to the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur or Consulate-General of The Republic of Singapore in Johor Bahru to obtain a replacement travel document.
    3. A temporary travel document, which is chargeable, will be issued to enable your return to Singapore. This travel document is only valid for one-way travel.
    4. As there are some administrative procedures involved in issuing a temporary travel document, our offices may not be able to issue the document immediately and you may have to extend your stay in Malaysia.
    5. For exiting Malaysia with a temporary travel document, you may be required to apply for a special pass from the Malaysian Immigration Headquarters in Putrajaya.
    6. You can apply for a new passport after you have returned to Singapore.

The SG arrival card (SGAC) is a simple and free arrival declaration of your travel and health details. You are exempted from submitting your SGAC if you are a Singapore Citizen, Permanent Resident or Long-Term Pass Holders arriving by Land.

Travelling to Malaysia:

Avoid school and public holidays, long weekends as there is massive jam (at least 3 hours stretching to 6 hours or longer) at both Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints. Recently Fri departure to Malaysia is also quite crowded.

MODE OF TRAVEL FROM SINGAPORE TO JB

1. Singapore registered car into Malaysia

i. Requirements before you start your trip from Singapore:

Ensure the following compliance before you start your trip from Singapore (below applies to Singaporeans):

  • mininum 3/4 tank of petrol
  • Passport with at least 6 months validity
  • Enough money on your NETS CashCard or Cepas (EzLink, NETS, TransitLink) to pay the toll charges

Entry into Malaysia:

  • Malaysia Touch N’ go card to pay for Malaysia’s road charge . Alternative, EZ-Link x Touch ‘n Go Motoring Card (5 years validity and stock of it is poor).
  • Required to online register for VEP to enter Malaysia (only can be done online, not at the immigration checkpoint). Thereafter collect the VEP RFID tag (stated that it will be delivered via postage) which has a 5 years validity and owners are strongly encouraged to renew their VEP 6 months before the expiry date.

ii. Round trip Fees to pay from Singapore to Johor Bahru (JB)

RM20 road charge for each entry. Toll charges Tuas checkpoint S$3.20 each way, or Woodlands checkpoint S$2.70 (arrival), S$3.80 (departure)

Departing from Singapore the bottom road leading to the checkpoint will be a better option as the upper road is flooded with motorcyclists occupying the leftmost-side of the road.

Useful list of bus services from Singapore to JB and within. Cross-border bus services have resumed from 1 May 2022, with the route and operating hours remain the same. Do double-check these buses are still in operation before your trip.

3. 5 mins travel by train (KTM), Shuttle Tebrau, from Woodlands CIQ to JB Sentral. Earliest train departs 08:30 and latest same day departure from JB Sentral is 22:45. Requires passport number and expiry when booking. Requires 1 month advance booking for popular dates on weekend or festive period, or late return timing. FAQ on the ticketing system and tickets can be bought at the counter and online. 20 minutes before the train’s departure time ticket sales stop.

E-wallet for Motorist toll fee and purchase

EZ-Link x Touch ‘n Go Motoring Card is a dual-currency cross-border contactless smart card designed primarily for Singapore motorists travelling to Malaysia.

Touch N’ go card (TNG)

Purpose: Pay toll, parking, retail stores, and public transportation.

Upgraded to Enhanced Touch ‘n Go Card with NFC technology to enable reloads via Touch ‘n Go eWallet. Lifespan of 7 years (10 years for the regular one). Official store for purchase on Lazada Malaysia.

Alternative when you join Watsons Malaysia membership (lifetime) the card comes with TNG feature. Reload without fee available in JB/KL (more at Watsons, Caring Pharmacy)

Inactive card:

“Remains active for a year and will be disabled if the card has not had any card transaction by way of reload or usage for the last 12 consecutive months.

Once a card is deactivated, an administration deactivation fee of RM5.30 (including GST effective 01/04/2015) will be imposed. The fee is deducted from the last card balance during termination of the card. In the event of a deactivated card continues to remain inactive, a maintenance fee of RM5.30 will be charged and deducted from the said deposit or unutilized card balance once every six (6) months. We will stop charging maintenance fee when the card is replaced, returned for refund or until the deposit and card balance is depleted.

They are unable to reactivate the deactivated (dormant) card or transfer the card balance into a new or an existing card. (CSO from Touch ‘n Go Facebook).”

A refund or return of the card can be done online. Register online your Touch N’ go card for security purpose in the event of any lost or stolen.

Tourism Tax on room charges

Applicable for both local and foreign tourists per room per day basis, on top of room rate + GST + service charge, to be paid direct to hotel.
